My name's Naraya and I'm founder of the Vadalna Tribal Dance Co., originally from NYC but now in Boston. There's a pretty good possibility that I might be relocating to Baltimore, thought I'd say hello to my fellow tribal gals and ask a question... I'd love to know what your favorite tribal goodness shtuff is in Baltimore? Like:
What's your favorite tribal location? (Club, restaurant, lounge, etc.)
What are some of your favorite tribal troupes?
Teachers?
Points of Inspiration?
I can't tell you how excited I was to find a Baltimore tribe!!! YES!!!! Thanks everyone and I can't wait to hear from you!!

Mon, February 25, 2008 - 6:55 AMHi. I'm in DC and not Baltimore (the dance scenes are reasonably connected in the two cities). If you're looking for tribal in Baltimore you should definitely check out Naimah (marylandbellydance.com/naimahraks/) and Kallisti Tribal (www.kallistitribal.com), who are awesome.
I'm not sure what other tribal troupes/dancers are up there (someone help me out here...I know there are more... :) ) and I don't think there are any regular tribal venues in Baltimore, although some haflas and local venues support tribal dancers (like the All Seasons hafla that Nina Amaya runs, Kallisti's Bastille Day hafla). You could also check out the tribal dancer resources in DC. DC Tribal (www.dctribal.com) is a good place to start.

We have a strong and rockin' tribal community in Baltimore that keeps growing and growing! Naimah is an incredible Tribal Fusion Soloist (and she has a rockin troupe, Henna Rose Tribal, too) who performs and teaches in the area, my troupe, Kallisti Tribal, dances and performs all around town and in D.C. and other surrounding cities, plus there's tons of new talent on the rise! Both Naimah and myself currently teach, as well as a few other venues in the area.
